Choices

I remember when I was just a boy
And from time to time, I'd get into somethin'
That got my Dad annoyed
He would sit me down and make me listen
To every thing he felt I should avoid

He said, life's like a Christmas present from above
Sometimes it's just a pair of socks
Sometimes somethin' that you love
Either way, it's just for you
And I guarantee it'll fit you like a glove
But, you know sometimes it's difficult
To accept the gift that you're deserving of

He told me, each day brings us choices
That we all have to make
Every choice is like a fork
In the road our lives will take
Either path might be the right one
Either one could be a really bad mistake

Living with those choices
Can be harder to endure
If the reason that you chose them
Wasn't altogether pure
You might wonder what you were thinking
Cause you just can't remember the allure
Someday you'll know what I mean
When you're a little more mature

He said, time is good for hiding things away
When you can't stand to think about 'em
For yet another day
But sooner or later
They present you with a bill you'll have to pay

So son, I hope you're listening
To what I said today
And that many, many years from now,
After I have gone away,
You can look back on your choices
And feel pretty sure you handled them OK
So take it one choice at a time, son
And Oh Yeah, don't forget to pray

Take it one choice at a time
And don't forget to pray
