Sunrise

There was once a sailor who told a story to me
Of lightless nights and lonesome days out on the sea
Said the silence was so loud and the darkness so bright
He hoped his dad was proud and his mother was alright

But what he didn't know was who he'd be tomorrow
He said you might feel the same, come fear or sorrow

He said, I wanna see the sunrise through my own eyes

I'd have never walked when I should've ran

So the sailor testified as he foresaw his tragedy
Written by his soul, now far beyond the sea

But as the days turned to months and the months turned to years
The sailor said only once through weary eyes and tears
