Sunrise

There was once a sailor who told a story to me
Of lightless nights and lonesome days out on the sea
Said the silence was so loud and the darkness so bright
He hoped his dad was proud and his mother was alright

But what he didn't know was who he'd be tomorrow
He said you might feel the same, come fear or sorrow

He said, I wanna see the sunrise through my own eyes
Without pride or disguise, abandon all my lies
And if I could do it all over again
I'd have never walked when I should've ran
You're more than what you can't withstand
But somethings you'll never understand

So the sailor testified as he foresaw his tragedy
Written by his soul, now far beyond the sea
He said it's not where he's leaving, it's what he's leaving behind
His love is now in a place he may never again find

But as the days turned to months and the months turned to years
The sailor said only once through weary eyes and tears

I wanna see the sunrise through my own eyes
Without pride or disguise, abandon all my lies
If I could do it all over again
I'd leave it all behind and take her hand
You're more than what you can't withstand
But somethings you'll never understand

By the end of the day, his heart beat the story
Time measured in tale with no riches or glory
He said, love is now estranged
For me, not for you
Take note of its grace and who affords it to you

For there may come a time when the light fades to blue
This life runs away, so find someone to run to

You need to see the sunrise through your own eyes
Without pride or disguise, abandon all your lies
Just throw it all down instead
Raise up the one you want in the end
You're more than what you can't withstand
These things, forever, please, understand
