Haven't been here in a while, but I remember the day
Walk me to the moment down memory lane
After all that's why I came yo because of the pain
Truth be told I hated you for such a long time
How you were so chubby and you couldn't do anything right
Walking these halls there's a lot to dissect
But some things in particular that I recollect
Roll the scenes, yeah hit the replays
Ha there it is where everything changed
Like the moment in the garden eyes opened to see
Started thinking bad about your identity

I haven't haunted you
But you've haunted me
Didn't know it
But those moments gave me glasses that shaped everything
But now I've come to reconcile
Time to heal with the truth
Get rid of old old mindsets that we grew up and outgrew

Yeah maybe this the part that I didn't like the most
A couple incidents, yeah a couple low blows
Didn't take it too hard, but deeper it showed
I see you at the locker I remember the note
Hey... do you remember that terrible note that I left you?
Yeah I remember that note
You hated that stupid school picture ID
With your ugly hair clips and your front buck teeth
Didn't look like everybody else, loathed that hair
Couldn't ever get them curls yo to straighten up to care
Just wanted to fit in and be viewed as enough
But the scales were always wanting and it came up as such
But I'm here to give you a message about the past
Now that I've grown up and I've come to understand

Didn't know it

Now it's my turn to show you the sites
Take my glasses for a ride let's review the time
Rolls reversed hold on tight for the new perspective
Correcting cataracts that you collected
Streaming memories all the impacts that hit
Let's shift to adult vision versus a kid
Truth is past moments sewed seeds of lies
That turned into ugly trees that grew and thrived
Bared a lot of bad fruit in the mind
Time to take an axe to it replant with life
You weren't ugly cause they didn't see your beauty
It was ignorance that called you unworthy
You weren't unlovable because they didn't accept you
From the beginning yo you always had value
Things done to you didn't make you unclean
You weren't responsible for other people's hurting
You didn't see it, but you were more than enough
The you without all the striving and the make-up
The narrative that you grew to take on
Came from other people's views skewed wrong
But here's the lesson that I've come to learn
Passing it on to you so it gets to us in return
The unqualified don't get to judge our worth
Hear it from me we're a blessing, not a curse
Anyone who didn't see that in the past
Missed out on us and that's the only fact that's sad
But we ain't letting lies define us no more
Time to grow up, spread wings and soar
