Crossroads / SCENE IV
I got stuck in the center of two identical roads
All I heard was drums and the sound of rhodes
I seen a man in a black cloak
No one around him so I knew I'm what he's bound to approach
And then he came closer
'Till I seen he looks just like me
I hope this moment is over
Before he asks me to give him a signing
I heard this story before, thanks to Robert Johnson
Can't sell my soul, even if I'm so locked in and focused on the high life
Making all these damn tunes
Running outta patience, no success from all these damn moves
He recognized that, and he asked me this
"What if I told you, you could get all that you want and quick?"
"All I ask is for you to sign next to the X"
I looked up to him and seen a cross around his neck, wow...
And so I asked the man
Why is he wearing that if that's exactly what he works against?
He said "why would you ask me that?"
"Maybe it's exactly what I'm workin' with"
"If you thinking wrong of me then think again"
"You know society is ran by money power and sin"
"You know religion got these people in they own crowds"
"You could have them look up to you if you look back down, ain't nobody around"
"So read that contract, since you can't afford a lawyer"
"To sit and read it for ya, that's seasoned up like Goya"
Can't lie, I thought about picking up the pen
Not to sign it, but to leave this m- dead where I found him
I might need therapy now
'Cause everything I ever wanted is in front of me, how could I just turn it down?
I could never get what I deserve
I gave the world all I had and watched its people leave me in the dirt
But I'd never trade integrity for nothing
I'm lookin' at the pen, then at his neck like "f*** it"
One of us gotta die, and I ain't finna be a b****
That ain't the way I was raised, regardless of how they split
Because of that, I always lived a split life
That's two worlds, both taught me to always get up and fight
No matter the circumstances, f*** all the circle dances
If I gotta rock alone, then I'ma make my own anthems
He looked me dead in the eyes and knew what I'd decide
I looked him back in the eyes, and I almost cried
I saw the future from both sides, depending on
If I sign it or not, but I know I'm strong
Did everything I put my mind to
Rushing into the high life, means that I would die two times, i gripped the pen tight
Killed his a- and burned the contract, to use as light
And got back home by the end of the night
I couldn't tell a soul what I just saw
Could've sold mine for the limelight, the h*** and all
But I'd rather have a family with one girl
And I know that there's an afterlife after this world
Can't be the one that dies more than once
But now there's something else wrong, I'm thinking like "what the f***"
Enough is enough, I turned the TV on
Now hell is on earth, I got you all involved...
I got you all involved...
All I heard was drums and the sound of rhodes
I seen a man in a black cloak
No one around him so I knew I'm what he's bound to approach
