The old man made his way slowly to the podium
The graduating class was so eager that this great man had come
What would Winston Churchill command them that day
What words of wisdom would that great statesman say

When he got to the microphone he just stood there and stared
The audience quieted itself
Which to that youthful crowd was rare
A few minutes passed, and they wondered what was wrong
Then clearing his throat he gave the speech for which they longed

He said

And then he walked away

My little boy came home from school; his head held down low
He said, "My math is too hard. It's something I can't know
And while I'm at it, I don't catch good, so I'm giving up the team So I took his hands in mine, and said, "I know what you mean

That little boy grew up to be a champion with that ball
And after graduation, he found that saving lives was his call

My dear old mom laid in bed, after many years
She held my hand and touched my face, wiping away the tears
She said,"I lived my life, my time on earth is through
But what I've learned and pass to you is wisdom for you to do
