Little Girl

Little girl backseat
Of her mama's car
Looking out the window
Out at all the stars
"Mommy could you please
Turn up the radio some more?"
Born in the city, raised on the farm
Pockets full of big dreams
Playin' in the yard
Looking at the sky
No reason to ask why
Back then

Oh how I miss those simple days
Of innocence and childish ways
Before the world got to her
Sometimes I wish I just could go back
To that little girl

Little girl princess
Playing dress up
She knew she was beautiful
Without makeup
Daddy took a picture
She smiled even bigger than the sun
But as she got older
That smile began to fade
She hated the mirror
And she started losing faith
She started getting hurt
So she hid herself away

Oh how I miss those simple days
Of innocence and childish ways
Before the world got to her
Sometimes I wish I just could go back
To that little girl

Little girl's gone now
Can't you see
She isn't the same way that she used to be
She's embarrassed of her looks
And she hardly ever plays anymore
Little girl where'd you go?

But maybe someday, someday she'll see
That that little girl was onto something
She knew her worth, and how to be happy

You can still have simple days
Of innocence and childish ways
Just don't let the world get the best of her
And don't forget
You're still that little girl
