My Devils

I see my devils
Everyday
Sometimes I dream
But they never go away

Guess I have no right
To want some peace of mind
But they're heavy old stones
And they're dragging me down from behind

Each one bears a lesson
Each one has its voice
Each one brings a darkness
Of course I knew I had a choice

Funny how they visit
Never know which one
Almost like they gang up
And I know they're never done

So, I vow and promise
And hope they'll go away
From off in the distance
You can hear them laugh and say

Each one bears a lesson
Each one has its voice
Each one brings a darkness
Of course I knew I had a choice

I know you've got your devils, too
God, all the forms they can take
We're alone in the darkness
But I'll be here when the morning breaks

I think I've learned my lessons, devils
Now it's time to be free
I'm throwing down these stones
And watch them roll into the sea

So let the darkness come
I know the things I've done right
While those devils may laugh for now
They're in for a hell of a fight

Each one bears a lesson
Each one has its voice
Each one brings a darkness
Of course I knew I had a choice
