The Stories

I write too many stories
About men who did me wrong
When I should be focusing on myself
Just like what my mom used to say
She said be the player not the game

She says don't be the victim
Run away from that mentality
Let people surprise you
But don't tell them anything
Tell the stories to yourself
As you lie in bed reflecting
And live on your own before you get too ahead of yourself

And I sing too many songs
About things that took too long
To happen
My mom says
Patience is a virtue

She says don't be the victim
Run away from that mentality
Let people surprise you
But don't tell them anything
Tell the stories to yourself
As you lie in bed reflecting
And live on your own before you get too ahead of yourself

I won't forget them
These little moments of wisdom
And they'll stick with me
Until I'm reflecting on the stories for the last time
And to the day I can set the stories free

She says don't be the victim
Run away from that mentality
Let people surprise you
But don't tell them anything
Tell the stories to yourself
As you lie in bed reflecting
And live on your own before you get too ahead of yourself
