July
I met July about a mile from the great highway
She'd been living off something in her smile and some rice cakes
I asked do you want to come and ride with me
She asked will you bring me back eventually
I said yes she got in and we drove away
She had never seen America or ridden in a Jeep before
And I knew what she wanted to do when we stopped at the store
She told me how she never wanted kids
But I wonder what she kept behind her lids
When she dreamed I could hear her she' whisper my name
And with her feet on the door and her head in my lap
We got pulled over and she swore she was taking a nap
To which the officer replied the evidence is clear and on her side
That's something that I won't forget for the years of my life
All on the cigarettes she got her lipstick
Good thing for her that that girl could drive a stickshift
When July was on fire the AC couldn't keep her cool
And when she blew up I asked if she did it as a general rule
She looked at me as if I was the joke
Then she took my lucky smoke
And she stared out the window with nothing to say
Between the footprints and the windshield
I missed my family when we drove right through Springfield
She asked me if I was always gonna tell her the truth
I said that I probably would I guess that wouldn't do
She took the keys and everything to far
Left me stranded abandoning my car
Where we met 'bout a mile from the great highway
She'd been living off something in her smile and some rice cakes
I asked do you want to come and ride with me
She asked will you bring me back eventually
I said yes she got in and we drove away
She had never seen America or ridden in a Jeep before
And I knew what she wanted to do when we stopped at the store
