Last Flight of the Vulcan

The fork-tailed Victor
Has flown its final flight
Off to touch the face of God
Journeyed to the sky
Gone are the days when Handley-Page
Would climb away to fight
For the lives of you and I

Tireless travels belting through the night and day
Outline of a delta that you can't mistake
Cratered fields reminders of the trails blazed

The wayward Vulcan howls and it sings
Like a gypsy moth held aloft on steel wings
And the fiery rage that XH-558 would bring
Will never be seen again

The lofty rise of British steel into the air
Sadly missed by watchful eyes who stared
Stricken down by metal fatigue so far beyond repair

A quad of Olympus engines roar
As the metal giant soars
Off the earth on which we trod
To touch the face of God
