Caestus of Grief

From the High Wall he descends
A seeker born of embers
A heavy price to pay for wicked men
And now he walks
Through spires of gold
To watch them dredge the Ash Heap
And suffer souls
Who thought that they could mend
So it happens again

Now nothing can grow
When grief is all you know
The colors creep in
Red black and gold
Their yours for the taking

They worship roots in halls of stone
And pray to gods in amber
A curse to choke the world
In an iron tomb
But is it more than flesh and bone
That calls to those who wander
Back and forth in search of
Sunless truth
And the lies of his youth

Now nothing can grow
When grief is all you know
The colors creep in
Steady in stride
Abandons his reason

Now nothing can grow
When grief is all you know
The colors creep in
Red black and gold
A changing of season
