Soft Eyes

A poor man needs a ride
A quarter short and this bus won't take his dime
He turns to leave then he sees a young man paying his fee
He was there recently

A handler stores my load
His back bent down the sun beats down on the road
He raises up with sweat on his brow
A working kid from a small town
And he feels proud

I look and see their soft eyes
But lately I've been lost in mine
Can I be the man who lends a hand?
Or looks for one to combine
How do I look with their eyes?

A soldier trips and falls
His face in the sand a comrade answers the call
To save a life an risk his own
His children will cry when they know his life will go
Their spirits will fall but when they rise
They'll be looking with daddy's soft eyes

I look and see their soft eyes
But lately, I've been lost in mine
Can I be the man who lends a hand?
Or looks for one to combine
How do I look with their eyes?
Look with their eyes
Look with their eyes
Look with their eyes

The fog of a somber day
A friend walks by asks me if I am ok
Her soft eyes bring tears to mine
She didn't know what she would find
By taking the time
How do I look with her eyes?
