Armchair Politician

It's not only me thinks we are
Falling heavily
Out of love with every step we take
Despite what may thru yonder skylight break

Those good old days were not what they're cracked up to be
When we were not so free as we were recently
Walk a mile in my shoes and then disagree

Lock horns in the dead of the night
Like a spread eagle, talons in flight
A simplistic decision
In or out
With division set for life
And even though it leaves us all behind

Now we find that secretly
We harbour hope that progress falters
Petulant the child who knows
To solve it with "I told you so"

Don't it feel shitty in this minority
To cut our noses off to spite our polity
Close your eyes and try to disagree

Lock horns in the dead of the night
Like a spread eagle, talons in flight
A simplistic decision
In or out
With division set for life
And even though it leaves us all behind
Swinging back and forth and left to right
The armchair politician's always right

Look into their eyes and tell me
You don't see they're human beings too
Be free, truly, you've got to grant the same to everybody

Lock horns in the dead of the night
Like a spread eagle, talons in flight
A simplistic decision
In or out
With division set for life
And even though it leaves us all behind
Swinging back and forth and left to right
The armchair politician's always right
