Midnight Ink

The sound of sombre conditions
Lingered around the empty street
While on the third floor, there's a man who holds a silent heart
He sits still and he waits until the sound tears him apart

Christmas came early this year
I've been running down my list one gift at a time
Hoping if we make it through to spring
We'll find the strength to fight the war
That we've been fighting from within

And if you want to see it rain
Well, just close your eyes
And wash your memory down the drain

There's still this sweetness to the morning
'Round here the birds all own their songs
And while the industry of seasons shifts to five-four time
At midnight we'll be dancing in-between those crooked lines

Christmas came early this year
I'm still running down my list one gift at a time
Knowing that in the midst of winter
We find that shelter from the storm
Won't hide us from the storm inside

And if you want to see it rain
Well, just close your eyes
And wash your memory down the drain
