Better On Paper

You and I, we had it all but figured out
Couldn't wait until the day when we would graduate
Two young kids and a backroad country house
The future was so bright
But the present had burned out

I know we made a lot of sense
At least until it settled in that

We were better
Better off on paper
At least it's now and not too late
And I know it hurts to say but
Two good people doesn't always mean that
Holding on is holding up
I know we both wish it was love

Everyone said we were such a perfect match
We finally found the one just like both our parents had
Don't think I regret any of our time
I'm glad that I can say I was yours and you were mine

Tell me did you notice when
All the storms were rolling in?
Cause

We were better
Better off on paper
At least it's now and not too late
And I know it hurts to say but
Two good people doesn't always mean that
Holding on is holding up
I know we both wish it was love

Just another lesson learned
And I'm sorry that it hurt

Were we worth it?
Even if it hurt but
At least we know we played the cards
Should've folded from the start
Cause two good people doesn't always mean that
Holding on is holding up
I know we both wish it was love

For what it's worth, I thought it was
