Lucy Waits

Lucy waits, I don't know where
Over, under, in between
Lucy slips through, never there
Summer haze and winter blind
Blink of an eye, heart on her sleeve
Making friends on the other side
Sinking further, she can't breathe
She leaves his bedroom incomplete

Lucy waits for me in a small place by the sea
But the tide is coming in and she's slipping underneath
Cutting holes in her sleeves, but making time to cook and eat
She's way out and back in time, she's way out at sea with me

Complicated, messy sheets
She slowly takes it all from me
The smell of concrete makes her sick
She stands on her own two feet
Turn blank pages into leaves
As she tumbles down with me
Lucy sits still in my mind
Lucid living makes me blind

Lucy waits for me in a small place by the sea
Sometimes rocky, sometimes warm, doesn't know what she will be
She still can't sleep, but she floats into my dreams
She's making me feel jealous of the life that she can lead

In time, she'll see the light
Better leave it for tonight
Only wait a couple years
To breathe in deep and face her fears
Something, someone, somewhere warm
Give out their hand, wake up at dawn
Drifting softly, dreaming slow
Always seems to let her know
