Migration

At Dawn
Do not wait a while

I will leave at dawn
We can leave at dawn and
As the birds bend their notes awake
I'll wait until the wind picks up again
And blows your hair against your eyes
Standing here why are we here

I'll wear gold on my last day
Late at night in the mirror I imagine
Gold I imagine
I'll leave at dawn
Rushing away swirls

Suddenly I'm awake and all I've pushed away from me is there
By the edge of my quilt, by the edge of the sand
Waiting for me
How could I have kept you so far my dear
The day darkens as it always must

Tiny prints of hands that have pulled
The seeds from the sunflower head
The flowers that so heavily bore down
The wind broke their stalks in half
Broken

The couplet lines I cannot see
Why have you forsaken me
The coins of gold around me fall
Why not find me in the fall
Why have I forsaken you
You stand beside me while I sleep
And pull me up into the dark
To stumble down the hall to take
Water from the dripping glade
Warmth of clouds from the heating grate
I want to see flying
