Music's Piths: Mentos' Enlightening Journey Through the Harmonious Forest

Man I am about to enter this forest that I am about to enter
And I am Mentos Leonard
And I'm entering this
Whoa! What a, wow man
What a crazy old forest this is
Ooh oh
I wonder what music's pith is
What's the pith of music

(Mentos)
What
Oh there's a voice
(Mentos)
It's saying my name; it's almost like I'm asleep the whole time
Almost but you don't know that yet for sure
That's kind of
That's kind of left ambiguous
He's fallen asleep
Oh oh
He's fallen asleep
(Uh-oh, uh-oh, uh-oh)

Ahh
Aughh
If it were a dream I'd be
I'm I'm not asleep
This could be a real forest here, maybe I'm in the forest
It's a crazy old forest here

Beast who watches me sleep
He's out to get me but he could be watching me now
Cuz what if I've been asleep

Uh yeah hi Marty uh thanks for hosting the show
Um I'm calling in today to um you know
To talk about the fact that Led Zeppelin had uh stolen "Dazed and Confused"
Um from Jake Holmes, a folk-blues artist who released it on his uh 1967 debut LP
And uh it was two years later, 1969, when Led Zeppelin stole it
I just wonder what's going on there, and thanks for taking my call

(Come on)
(Keep it up)

Uh hey Marty, uh thanks for taking my call
I think I was uh
I think I was uh maybe in my 20s when I first heard Mentos Leonard
And uh from the very first time that I heard the opening notes of Me When I
I just uh I just I couldn't think that music like that could have possibly existed and now I

A-one-two-three-four
A-five-six-seven-eight
A-nine-ten-eleven-twelve
Fuck!

Mentos Leonard sleeping in the forest
Mentos I am mentos sleeping in the forest
Mentos Leonard sleeping in the forest
Oh mentos is sleeping in the forest

He's sitting on the ground Mentos Leonard
Sleeping in the forest
His head is on some leaves
Why is he asleep in the forest

What's that?
My favorite Mentos Leonard song?
Ah, god, where do you even start with a band like that?
You know, obviously, like most people, the first song I listened to was
"What the Fuck Did You Fucking Say About Me You Little Bitch," et cetera, et cetera
That song absolutely blew up back in uh back in the 80s
Uh but you know, like like most bands it's
Their hit single is not their best song

Like um
I think, I always liked
I always liked the "Magnum Opus Sus,"
The rap freestyle on that and some of the sound effects
And "Peter"'s a good one as well, really deep meaning in that song
I think my all-time favorite has got to be "The Wrong of Spring.wav.The Wrong of Spring.wav.wav"

Just absolutely flawless
And you know it was all improvised
I mean, what more can you say?
They came up with that on the spot

Ooh uh
Mentos Leonard, Mentos Leonard
Mentos Leonard, Mentos Leonard
You are listening to Mentos Leonard
You are listening to Mentos Leonard currently
This is Mentos Leonard

Mentos Leonard you say
Now that is a name I haven't heard in a long time
When Mentos Leonard released Me When I in 2020
It helped me out of one the deepest depressions I'd ever been in
And it put me into an even deeper downward spiral of drugs and self-destruction

Until I realized the true message of Me When I
And its followup album, whose name I cannot pronounce
That you know what
Sometimes it's okay to pour rice on your head and ask for soy sauce
That's all I'm saying
That's all

Uh mentos mentos mentos oh oh
Here we go here we go now here's a verse
About the jungle and uh my favorite animal
And it's the silverback gorilla, they

Uh yeah I wasn't the biggest fan of Mentos Leonard
When I first heard it I thought "well this sounds a bit odd, doesn't it"
You know, it's not exactly what you'd call a typical
Typical rock-and-roll band as they say
But yeah I listened to it a bit more
And it starts to grow on you, I think

The more that you listen to it, the more that you start to expect the uh
You know the more unusual parts of it
You get a better appreciation for
You know, the hidden meaning behind some of the songs
I mean, it's just, you know, there's so much in there

There's a bit of every great band is in Mentos Leonard's Me When I
You've got a bit of uh
You got a bit of
You've got a bit of
And uh of course you've got
Um yeah really, really just the most fantastic band I've ever heard

Hey hey ohh hey I'm Heebie Jeeber
I'm here to haunt your dreams Mentos Leonard
I'm Heebie Jee
I'm from the other album
I'm Heebie Jeeber
(Crossover)
Crossover, this is a crossover
Uh, Heebie Jeeber, I'm here to
Oh I'm gonna cast a spell on you like I did with the Tungsten

Yeah I'd have to say I was provably still in grad school
Thinking I knew everything about the world
Thinking I knew what the world was truly about
But then when I first heard Me When I
The debut album from Mentos Leonard
My conceptions of reality began to tear down
And you know I I I was neurotic
I was institutionalized
And really I think all is for the better now you know
I learned a lot about society

A-one-two-three-four
Ye

One two three four ends

Mentos
Mentos
This is the voice of the universe
If you can hear me
You are in a dream and you must wake up
You have been in the Harmonious Forest
And if you do not open your eyes
Then you will certainly fall prey to the cruel setups
Don't do it
Mentos, wake up

That's the end
No more
