Go and Stay Gone, I

Feelin' lost lately
Tired and out of touch
Thinkin' back to the younger me
The younger me

Remember Big Sur, man?
Early twenties felt so free
Somehow all that wandering felt so certain
I'm staring at a blurry picture of what I thought I should be

Painting pictures of landscapes far away
Would rather take to the open roads than find a way to cope
I'm thinking rain-slicked highways and all night cafes
No use in facing life, we should just go and stay gone

Trying hard to get it right
Retracing steps, playing it back
Remembering the wine of youth

Dancing under pale moonlight
Chasing sun across golden hills
Sleeping in the roadside ditches

Painting pictures of landscapes far away
Would rather take to those open roads than find a way to cope
I'm dreaming rain-slicked highways and all night cafes
No use in facing life, we should just go and stay gone
