The Jackal Never Dies

It wasn't hard to find
With all the mess they made
Blood and spent shells left behind
Scattered all across the glade
They lie there, side by side
Both stained from throat to feet
Crimson rivers yet undried
Men reduced to butchers' meat

Hand still around his gun
The youngest's eyes yet stare
Off towards the rising sun
Through his brother lying there
So I begin my task
Shutter click the only sound
That's when I first see the mask
Discarded on the ground

It's only painted wood
But as I gaze, the whispers rise
A distant chant assures me
The Jackal never dies

I let my camera bow
My mind is playing tricks
I cannot hear the whispers now
Once more, my shutter clicks
But my attention wanders
And then it's in my hands
Where's the harm, I ponder?
As I bow to its demands

I fix the mask in place
The trees alone can hear my cries
The whisper is inside me now
The Jackal never dies
Through countless hands and countless lives
So has the curse been passed
My fingertips stretch into knives
I am reborn at last

(A-woo)
(A-woo-ooh-ooh)
(A-woo)
(A-woo-ooh-ooh)
