Between Earth & Starlight

BETWEEN EARTH AND STARLIGHT
There's a house on the edge of town
A lot of folks they want to knock it down
But don't let 'em make you think like that
Such a place I wish they'd just leave alone

You can see it when you pass it by
Set back in dry grass three foot high
There's a goat there from time to time
Like the ghost of the old man's son

Behind the house stand two tall trees, tall and thin
Spirit sisters, like they've always been
And with brother goat and his manchurian grin
You can feel how they won't let you in

There's a feeling there
And when I'm chasing down my headlights at night
They're in the air, spinning free
They anchor the twilight between earth and starlight
Shimmer and float and they dance and they joke
At these things humans will never know
