I'm tracing back through history
Through all the glory and atrocity
The fame and fortune and misery
And all else considered noteworthy
Wondering how we arrived to this set of beliefs
That some should starve while others are kings
That life should lose value in anonymity
That we should gather around in our philosophizing

Well the church bells are ringing for those who are listening
As a handful of people own as much as half of humanity
And our generation plans for the doom of their creating
But we're too worked to death to do anything
Still we're endlessly advertised to as if we have money
But it went to rent and student loans and bonuses for the thieves
Now having death as a retirement plan out of necessity
And all the while I'm sitting here wondering

Well, I've traveled a bit so I have a bit to compare
I've experienced freedom and prison and what is and isn't fair
Becoming wise enough to see strategy of nefarious affairs
While noting the actors and the who what's and where
Asking, "what is distraction and what is truth?"
Will it make me older and wiser or just rob me of my youth?
Will it facilitate and agenda that's beyond my command
While claiming its source of divinity and according to plan
