The Way Down
I drank some water yesterday
I took a shower
Went on a walk
I saw the sun for one whole hour
I changed my clothes
And brushed my hair
Put on some lotion
But anymore and life starts moving in slow motion
They say it's a climb
To the finish line
But I think it feels more like
The hardest part
Is coming down
Knowing that eventually
Your feet will have to hit the ground
It's not the mountain
You have to climb
It's knowing all the scary things you left
Didn't get left behind
And even if you turn around
The healing starts on the way down
I stretched a little
Put some sugar in my coffee
But then I cried
Because I tripped and spilled some on me
I haven't talked to anyone in weeks and weeks
I've only got the smallest baby steps in me
They say it's a climb
To the finish line
But I think it feels more like
The hardest part
Is coming down
Knowing that eventually
Your feet will have to hit the ground
It's not the mountain
You have to climb
It's knowing all the scary things you left
Didn't get left behind
And even if you turn around
The healing starts on the way down
You gotta pick if you're fighting
Or trying to flee
Or to learn to let go of who you used to be
Understanding it takes time to finally find peace
Cause nothing else heals wounds this deep
The hardest part
Is coming down
Knowing that eventually
Your feet will have to hit the ground
It's not the mountain
You have to climb
It's knowing all the scary things you left
Didn't get left behind
And even if you turn around
The healing starts on the way down
I took a shower
Went on a walk
I saw the sun for one whole hour
