Why I Write

Why I write?
I write because therapy is too expensive for me
I write so my soul has a moment to breathe... deeply
Completely without judgment
I write because words give me life
Life words give me energy
Energy words make me feel love
Love brings me back to life
The cycle is never ending
Sending me through loops like fancy roller coasters
I write because others need voices to their stories
Tragic and triumphant
I speak in multiple tongues for them
Just one language but different tones for them
Creating different zones of therapy
Of course the majority you'll never see or hear
Cuz I keep my heart here. And my mind here
They wonder what I'm thinking, it keeps some of them in fear
But I just keep writing my intentions are abundantly clear
I spit love to the unloveable
Spit fire on the extinguishers
Show empathy to the under-served
And compassion to the un-deserved
Sometimes
But sometimes they still don't deserve it
For them, I build composts and fill it with all their sh—
Why I write?
I write so my daughter feels pride for her daddy's work
So she can one day read books with her last name on it
We are all complicated people don't put shame on it
So she will always know the love her father had for her
May it change the perception the world creates for her
That Black daddies don't love out loud
So she will always know just how proud I was of her
I'll break down walls, shatter glass ceilings for her
If I could
I would
Why I write?
I write to unlock the secret
Because I believe I can manifest my future life
I've done it before in a negative light
So I truly know it's power
So now
Now I speak in love showers and storms filled with Bob Marley lyrics
Hurricanes of forgiveness and tsunamis against separation
Tornadoes of understanding and heat waves of reparations
I write to make the world a better place for us all
This is my call to action and there's no end in sight
So if you ask me why
This is why I write
