Leaving the Fragile Space

A fragile space, mourned and not forgotten
And arrayed with lights that are slowly fading

Echoes! Frail cries from old dreams
That gently haunt my darker days

A fragile space grey with nostalgia
And with regret, full of imagined sorrows

But then that dreadful day
Amid the prevailing decay
When drifting in ghastly silence
Despair!

The last rays come down
All is black and desolate
Nothing stirs and nothing sighs
Everything is dust

So now lacerate my heart
And draw the ghost from my veins
As draughts of ancient light come pouring down
For me, here, to lie in its deathless glow
Its embracing warmth, its silent comfort

Now the older days have passed me by
Like empty thoughts cast aside
So into the void and its endless embrace
