Stenciled Lady

The sun bows its head, the river grows still.
The winter is warmed and the summer is chilled.
Wrong becomes right wherever she goes,
Lord you know she's a woman who'll steal your soul

I held her in springtime, and begged her to stay.
She came on a breeze left the same way
But before she could go, she let me to know,
That the memory of a woman will last 'til you're old

In the hours of heaven a vision I saw.
A six wingéd creature with a fiery maw.
Then I looked at my side, at the lady so bright,
And laughed as the vision faded from sight

The thought of her mocks me, my world is unsure,
A happier mind with a heavier heart.
To whom should I look for a balm in the sun
Oh where can you be oh lady who loved me so well,
Put me under a spell for a summer of love and a lifetime of hell

But I guess in the end the real sin would be,
To take what she gave me for granted and leave
With my life still the same, unbroken but tame,
Yes for better or worse at least I've changed
