Wish That I Could Tell Me

Some days I still wake up with my chest feeling tight
I take a moment hold it till I know I'm alright
I try to get past it
But some days I just don't
Close my eyes remember what I think I know best
There's three things in this room that I could feel with my hands
Six years in the making
And it creeps up on me still
But something's different this time
I let the wave wash over me
But it don't crash as much as it used to
What did I do?
I'm looking back at the years that I've spent
Thinking I wasn't getting better but then
I remember where my feet are
Much farther than I could have imagined
If I could go back in time just to see
I hold her close, a little version of me
Tell her it's just temporary
And I'd show her all she's gonna do and more
Take it from me
'Cause I've been there before
Some day you wake up without a thing you know
Spiral way too deep to get yourself out all alone
But look around there are people who'd be sad to see you go
And they'd do anything they could to bring the light to get you home
And something's different this time
I look up at the sky and realize
My troubles are smaller than they used to
What did I do?
I'm looking back at the years that I've spent
Thinking I wasn't getting better but then
I remember where my feet are
Much farther than I could have imagined
If I could go back in time just to see
I hold her close, a little version of me
Tell her it's just temporary
And I'd show her all she's gonna do and more
Take it from me
I know you've heard it all before
The words sund empty at this point
If it feels as if there's nothing you can do to change things
And I'm not saying that it's easy but if it's anything
This is what I wish that I coud tell me
Tell me
I'm looking back at the years we went through
And all the ways you learnt and how much your grew
And I don't know how I did it
But I hope you know I'm here because of you
If I could go back in time just to see
I'd hold her close, a little version of me
Tell her thank you for the patience
The gentleness and love she gave and more
I'll pay it forward to the me I was before
