I'll Always Be Watching You

A young boy riding a bike for the first time
His father is running behind
The boy doesn't know that he's all on his own
Riding on and feeling fine
But he falls down and cries
As he looks up at his father's eyes
His father says

Son hold me a minute and wipe all those tears away
I will always be here when you need me
No matter if it's night or day
There'll be other times when you feel pain
But I don't want you to be afraid
Though you won't always see me
I'll always be watching you

The young man comes home early
He had a fight with his girl that day
Come home drying the tears from his eyes
Doesn't know what to say
And he falls down and cries
And as he looks up at his father's eyes
His father says

Son hold me a minute and wipe all those tears away
I will always be here when you need me
No matter if it's night or day
And there'll be other times when you feel pain
But I don't want you to be afraid
Though you won't always see me
I'll always be watching you

And a father's love
Watches over the day
Through his eyes
Takes away any pain

Now his father is lying in bed
The doctor says he is very weak
And sorry to say they've done all that they can
When his father tries to speak
As he kneels by his side
And he looks into his father's eyes
His father says

Son hold me a minute and wipe all those tears away
I will always be here when you need me
No matter if it's night or day
And there'll be other times when you feel pain
But I don't want you to be afraid
Though you won't always see me
I'll always be watching you
Though you won't always see me
I'll always be watching you
