Rose for a Heart

I've been walking
I've been slinking along so long
Where is the ending
And is there meaning to it all

I drop petals along with echoes
To call me back to where I've been
I rest a while at the crashing
And let the water touch my feet

Falling slowly and then pouring through my hands
I sit sipping on the salt air
Memories grainy as the sand
With a rose for a heart

I've been walking
I've been trudging along too long
My legs are howling
Arches burning and soles torn

The footsteps in the background
Moving forward within the scene
Eyes in the front, a trait evolved in preying beasts
Apparently

Falling slowly and then dropping at my feet
I shed skin in shapes of petals
And whistle dixie as I gleam

Heat flows through me and then
Goes flooding down the street
I bat my eyes at passers by
And don't dare to bare my teeth
With a rose for a heart
