Coffee Table

I'm building a table
One for my den
You'll be able to put stuff on it
Every now and then
You can even kick your feet up
Just sit back and relax
Or build a thousand-piece puzzle
As a matter of fact

It all started that day when you walked by
I just knew there was something I had to do
To get to talking to you

So I'm building a table
Out on my porch
It's hotter than a biscuit
On a Sunday mornin'
All I need is just one chance
For you to walk by
I hope you would see me working
So I could say "Hi"

I keep hammering and cutting day by day
I'm even painting it in eye-catching turquoise blue
To get to talking to you

It's been a week out working on my tan
In hopes that I might talk to you again

I'm building a table
Different from the last
It'll be more stable
I won't work so fast
I'll take my time and put the work in
And build it board-by-board
Just like my relationships
Details won't be ignored

It all started that day when you walked by
I just knew there was something I had to do
To get to talking to you
To get to talking to you
