Carpenter

The Carpenter sets out His tools
Figuring an old story to renew
His words like nails to drywall
Giving me hope when I fall

Knitted, sewed up, patched up from time
Facing me directly in the eyes
He's the Father I've forgotten all along
All he requires is that my feathers stay on

And I'm shadowed by fears
Restless in tears
I don't know what to make of this
A mystery paid my debt
Darkness in me
Failures I've believed
The light may seem dim
But never lets evil in

And I look to the river
And I look in my soul
And I see in the distance
My only true home
Fall is coming quickly
And I'm still saying goodbye
That tomb is still empty
Nails and wood left behind
