The Thread (Part 2)

In the cold midwest evening sunset glow
We heard the cries of Abigail
It was the anniversary of her brother's death
When he tumbled from the hill

Not a fortnight passed and her father ain't outlast
Two bottles of whiskey and gin
Found the station wagon wrapped around a tree
With a pistol in his hand

Abigail dreamed of opening an antique shop
And helped Ma find some reasons to live
Wasn't long 'til the sirens had soaked the fears
That she had held onto for a year

Just a pill and a bit, was her mother's thread
Abigail let the fire burn
And she fell asleep by the open window
While her mother hung herself

Did you hope
Did you pray
Did you hold your breath
Did you love
Did you care
Did you lose yourself
Are you only a whisper away from us
Or did you move on with the wind
Can you hear, Abigail
Can you hear their voice in the cold midwestern wind
Can you hear me
Are you close, oh my dear
Are you close enough to feel me falling asleep in the wind
Can you feel me
Can you hear, Abigail
Can you hear my voice calling out in the cold, cold wind
Ahh
Are you close, oh my dear
Are you close enough to see me coming to peace in the wind
