Land of Opportunity

Indians and cowboys used to roam this part of town
They rambled and they gambled just like we do now
Shooting dice and shooting guns, fighting to be free
To find a place to live here in the land of opportunity

Tonight I'll curl up safe inside a very sturdy tent
Cars go whizzing by but it sure beats paying rent
A place to lay out of the way is all I really need
Sleep under the stars here in the land of opportunity

Some people gave me food but it didn't have a seal
They never had to think if there'd be glass in their next meal
Empty houses sit, I could go squat in them for free
Home is where you hang your hat here in the land of opportunity

Opportunity is what you make it
Pull yourself up by the bootstraps and fake it
Don't tread on me, come and take it
Opportunity is what you make it

They used me for their wars, then left me on the street
With no place to live and nothing to eat
I must still be wearing camouflage, the way you look through me
All gave some and some gave all here in the land of opportunity

Opportunity is what you make it
Pull yourself up by the bootstraps and fake it
Don't tread on me, come and take it
Opportunity is what you make it

Coffee in the morning, fly a sign at noon
Whiskey in the evening, then fly me to the moon
I am right in front of you, but you don't look to see
I'm barely getting by here in the land of opportunity
