The Legend of Phantom Lake

Grandpa tell us a story
Ok gather around the campfire
I'm going to tell you a story about how phantom lake got it's name
The story involves love and jealousy and murder
And a spirit who dwells in that lake
It's where the legend comes from
You see their were two tribes that lived by it's shore's

There's a lake in southern wisconsin
Where the strangest things occur
That the locals say is haunted
Where the spirit in the water stirs
If you come on down to the shoreline
When the moon is half high
You may become a believer when the
Spirit comes and claims it's bride

He fell in love with the tribal chiefs daughter
Love and jealousy tore him apart
The plot to murder another warrior
Came creepin like a phantom that claimed his heart

Her tribe seeked food and water
He had a scheme for the sac chiefs daughter
A treaty for her hand to bring the tribes together
Drove a wedge between her love and honor
Her heart belonged to another
A love so pure that nothing else mattered
A man of her tribe that cared so deeply
Soon to be gone in a love that's shattered

He fell in love with the tribal chiefs daughter
Love and jealousy tore him apart
The plot to murder another warrior
Came creepin like a phantom that claimed his heart

With moonshine in your jar
There's a lake that ain't too far
Tribal wars and forest lights
And things that go bump in the night

Evil lurks and claims its prize
Local bars and campfires rise
A weaving web of loves heartache
The legend of phantom lake

Two warriors went for a hunt
Only one to return
In fear in pointing the finger
Dead or alive was the tribes concern
Come on down to the shoreline
When the moon is half high
You'll see your beloved warrior
And his lover by his side

2 Canoes racing in the dark
1 With lovers 1 for the attack
With a plunge 2 warriors fought
Sinking slowly with a knife in the back

If I can't have her no one can
One hand rises and pulls her under
The phantom claimed it's bride
With a shreak loud as thunder

Drinkin' whiskey under the stars
There's a lake that ain't too far
Tribal lores and forest lights
And things that go bump in the night
Evil lurks and claims it's prize
Local bars and campfires rise
A weaving web of loves heartache
The legend of phantom lake
Oh yeah
