The Next Day

My face is covered with salt water
My eyes are red and my throat is sore
When I drive to my at late at night like no other
I see your face in the clouds and I'm sure of my world

Now that it's said and done
Everything's up to us
If I wanted to call, I would
Time flies when you drag your feet
And spirit keeps me pain free
There's a pile of dust on the wood that still creaks and it reminds me
Of us

So when will you come up to town to play hookie again
We'll see each other
And act like we used to be old friends
So indifferent, we've divided up time and its train wreck
But now we talk to the people we told each other never to end up with

Now that its said and done
Everything's up to us
If I wanted to call, I would
Time flies when you're nailed to the cross
Drag me up to the mountain top
And tell me the things you know that you shouldn't

When we are old I don't know if we'll still think this way
But for now, I am proud of retaining a memory one in the same
And I'm still reminded of you
But only when I hear your name
And only in that instant
Then it's gone
The next day
