Husk

Darkness transition into light
I've opened my eyes
But I still lack the perspective to understand
The world has irreversibly changed
And I can't do a thing to make it better when I have to leave it

As a race we have nothing left to prove
We've killed and taken all that we can
Stuck in this husk of a world that once had
Life as far as your eyes could behold

I see what's left but know it's not right to live that way
Each day we drain the Earth for monetary gains
We've doomed our future generation
It's their problem now
Even with unlimited information at our fingers
We're so blind

Life never wants to go my way
Even when I try to fix things
I push everyone away
Time has never been a friend to me
I never know what I should say

Part of the problem that we face is
No one is willing
To change for the good of everyone around them
You get worked up over these problems
But what do you do to fix them
How did you heal the world while sitting on your smart phone

As a race we have nothing left to prove
We've killed and taken all that we can
Stuck in this husk of a world that once had
Life as far as your eyes could behold

Darkness is all that is remaining
I cannot see
I have been led astray
By people that I trusted
People seek answers in their phone screens
But they only accept the answers that they wanted in the first place

Life never wants to go my way
Even when I try to fix things
I push everyone away
Time has never been a friend to me
I never know what I should say
Even as the words escape me
Pain will never go away
