The Bird

The stone lay silent in the sun
Drinking the sun ray's warmth
Softly it lay on a velvet bed
Peaceful it gazed on the land

Then a bird flew by and cried
Look at me, at my joyful flight
To see the mountains, all the seas
You must wish for a life like me

Never to feel the power of wings
To go wherever you like
Never to travel far and wide
That must be boring indeed

So tender the stone replied
In a voice dark with age
I have seen so much lying here
It would take me years to tell

Your life is a breath in the air
Fly as long as you can
I saw your forefather here and
I will see your child fly by

Your life is a breath in the air
Fly as far and as long as you can
I saw your forefathers years ago
I will see your children fly by
