My Best Christmas

One by one
The city turns their lights on
Charlie Brown reruns
And oft repeated songs
And I can see so clear
Each thing I lost this year
Getting covered up in snow until it's gone

Looking at my list, I know I missed the window
To buy, and stamp, and send
With smile, or stress, or both
Staring at my phone
I'm stuck inside my home
My paycheck wasn't big enough to go

Maybe joy's too far-fetched a wish on this Christmas
But I'll raise my glass and hope for some cheer
And maybe peace only sticks around for a minute
But it's the longest I've had for most of this year
So Merry Christmas, I'm doing my best here

The kids are growing fast
I wouldn't recognize them
And our love didn't last
Stayed still until it froze
But there's no going back
No ghost of Christmas Past
So I'm beckoning the new year with some hope

Maybe joy's too far-fetched a wish on this Christmas
So I'll raise my glass and hope for some cheer
And maybe peace only sticks around for a minute
But it's the longest I've had for most of this year
So Merry Christmas, I'm doing my best here

Down the sidewalk in my sweater
Looking at the lights
Maybe next year will be better
And I will feel alright
Singing carols and not just silent nights
Hark the herald and Christmas dressed in white

Maybe joy's too far-fetched a wish on this Christmas
But I'll raise my glass and hope for some cheer
And maybe peace only sticks around for a minute
But it's the longest I've had for most of this year
So Merry Christmas, I'm doing my best here

I'm doing my best here
I'm doing my best here
