The Neighborhood
When you come to my neighborhood
Pay some mind to the neighbors who pass you by
Up against the impossible
White picket fences and obstacles, wonder why
Say hello to my neighborhood
Time and tide, when you find the time say goodbye
When you leaving our neighborhood
This deceiving old neighborhood
When you come to my neighborhood
Need to treat all the neighbours good
Might be a shortage of parking spots
It's over flow from the parking lots
The parking cops
On our block often, they strict with enforcement
Cat lady on the corner always gives her endorsement
A thumbs up from the window, a widow, i've heard her stories
She'll tell you bout them glory days back in the early 40's
Things were different then, they used have the train tracks divide
Colours that rarely crossed and you knew to keep to ya side
Was it racism or pride of the city where you reside
You manage despite the odds.
"if you didn't you shoulda tried even harder"
In her mind that's why some people have and others lack
She said that lazy comes in different shades of white and black
So when you come to my neighbourhood remember that
Mind her cats, the cataracts and her cadillac
When you come to this part of town
Might see a dude push a cart around
He said he prepping for Armageddon to come and i should
Go find me a church with a reverend, n run
He's got a bunker made of other people's trash
And it's kind of an eye sore over that government grass
And every weekend they come by so they can clean up the tracks
And every week he's say "goodbye" and then he finds his way back
A little game of cat and mouse that i enjoy from a distance
Watching from my house and I admire his persistence
I've seen the cops remove him, one had brought him some lunch
...I was impressed they're a co-operative bunch
I know that certain neighbours leave him things outside of his tent
Next to a sign that says to 'praise the lord it's time to repent'
While other neighbours say that it's encouraging his behavior
Hope his lord and savior finally does him a favor...
I bet you'll come to conclusions here
... consider that as a souvenir
The tracks are there, the separation is gone they say
It's mostly fair cuz segregation is wrong they say
See all the colours when u walk thru the mall? they say
N Why the fuck can't we just ALL get along they say
And all this talk about a "they" I'm appalled they say.
But gay marriage they should have it annulled they say
LBGQ Whatever it's called
Don't wanna worry bout what's sitting next to me in a stall they say
But Pretty soon what u say.I say
And pretty soon .we get real stuck in our ways
...I've heard a million definitions of free
N In ya perfect world I bet you'd want us all to agree
Its hard work seeing things and thinking. what if its me?
Cuz there's a bunch of shit I'm looking at I'd rather unsee
Pay some mind to the neighbors who pass you by
