Some Songs Just Don't Work

I wrote another song this morning
Sent it to O and we worked on the wording
But no one will have ever heard it
Cause it sits on a laptop with thousands we've deserted

We'll just write another song tomorrow
Listen to favorites, looking to borrow
Bits and pieces, riffs and reasons
Just to feel less hollow

Go searching for gold
Feel like a fool
Try catching lightening
Inside a tiny room

Cause some songs just don't work
While others songs leave you hurt
There's thousands before it that had to occur
Thousands of songs much worse

Even when we try our best
The tank is empty, there's nothing left
Cause some songs just don't work

We try to write a song that's worthy
Of being sung long after we're buried
Sing it while I'm on a gurney
Looking at bright lights hoping it was worth it

So here's a song that we've been working on
Hoping someday you'll sing along
So go on and sing it wrong
Cause This House Has Room and you belong

Go searching for gold
Feel like a fool
Try catching lightening
Inside a tiny room

Cause some songs just don't work
While others songs leave you hurt
There's thousands before it that had to occur
Thousands of songs much worse

Even when we try our best
The tank is empty, there's nothing left
Cause some songs just don't work

I wonder all the time
Will this be the last song that I write
Hope it comes out right

I wonder all the time
Will this be the last song that I write
I hope it's one you like

Cause some songs just don't work
While others songs leave you hurt
There's thousands before it that had to occur
Thousands of songs much worse

Even when we try our best
The tank is empty, there's nothing left
Cause some songs just don't work
