The letter, it came in the mail today
I could not believe what it said
Your brother has drowned in the ocean
His plane was shot down, he is dead

So I ran to the arms of my mother
She met me with tear in her eyes
"Why couldn't it be you" she did whisper
Then she closed the door with a sight

I went to the bar for some liquor
But the barman, he turned me away
"Get out of here, you're a loser"

When I stepped outside, it was raining
And it chilled me right down to the bone
A girl yelled out from a window
"I hope that you die from the cold"

So I went for to buy an umbrella
From the old general store near the jail
But the shopkeeper laughed at my money

Back outside it was hailing
