Beyond the Castle (From "Bliss the Musical”)

Here in the kingdom, where everyone's got a role
The bakers bake, and the troubadours all sing
The royals rule, and the lines are uncrossable
If you're a jester, you do your jester thing
So I show up, I do
I wear the hat and do the chore
You keep 'em laughing, do the task, don't ask for anything more
But somewhere far away from here the stars are waiting
In worlds beyond the atmosphere, in constellations
So bright, so strong
So far beyond the castle
Well, I was twelve when my pops found my telescope
He told me, "Son, get your head out of the clouds!
You know we come from a long line of jester-folk
You'll learn to juggle, and make your family proud"
And so I took the path
Top of my class at jester high
I got the job my parents wished for, kissed stargazing goodbye
But when the sky is clear and dark
I can't resist, and I venture out
To see the stars in all their mystery
Then night turns day and on my way to the castle
A royal palace, majestic, superlative
A dazzling castle that shines from ceiling to floor
A perfect life anybody would love to live
Why is it so hard to walk inside that door?
Should be enough for me
It's not enough for me
'Cause I can't stuff the feeling
There is so much, so much to see
Beyond the castle
Like Galileo, I'll see it all through my own eyes
And see the way that the sky goes on
So far beyond the castle
