Wait For the Sun

My personal war
It started five after four
In the morning
Been losing battles for weeks
An ashtray full of defeat
As I fight an invisible foe
Changing my mind
Keep on swinging
Or cut this noose
Digging to find
Some hidden treasure in solitude
And wait for the sun

That's not my face
That's not my mind out of place
And reeling
My heart aches and swells
From casting wishes in wells
That sink just as fast as they fall
And like the fourth of July
I've been red white but mostly blue
And this black eye
Is one more reason to talk it through
And wait for the sun
And wait for the sun

My personal war
It started five after four
In the morning
Been losing battles for weeks
An ashtray full of defeat
As I fight an invisible foe
Changing my mind
Drag this baggage
Or cut it loose
And hoping to find
The deeper meaning of solitude
As I wait for the sun
As I wait for the sun
As I wait for the sun
As I wait for the sun
