Maple Tree

The maple tree in my neighbor's yard
Doesn't look quite the same
It's branches droop and the leaves have turned brown
A result I'm sure of the lack of rain
The soil beneath looks up with pleading eyes
But the small and fragile tree stands there in denial
A little bit of water will help her grow
But she can't leave behind this weakness she's only ever known

Grow for me
My maple tree
Let in the rain to be set free
And the weeds choking up your roots,
Will become your new source of fuel
And the rest of your autumn days
You'll fight it even though this is the only way
Let in the rain

The pain you bare
It's horrible but I envy it
You are beauty in the eyes that have been deceived
You're fragile but fair
Is it wrong that I am willing to admit
I would do almost anything to be that maple tree
Heal take in all of the sun
But it's so addictive to want to feel numb
You look so tired
Are you growing cold?
This is it
This is it
This is all that I'm ever gonna know

Grow for me
My maple tree
Let in the rain to be set free
And the weeds choking up your roots
Will become your new source of fuel

Grow for me
Grow for me

Sunlight, water
Nothing matters
"Pretty," "perfect"
I wanna be that
I wanna be it
Sunlight, water
Nothing matters
I want "perfect"
I deserve it

Grow
Grow
