The Ghost On Sunset Blvd

You go pose from rose to rose
You hop from poppy to poppy
In Hollywood looking to get hired to write an original story
You get chased by repo men when your tire blows
So you hide in a driveway
Of 10086 Sunset Boulevard
And it's all very queer but queerer things were yet to come

It was a big white elephant
A place the crazy movie people built in the crazy twenties
Now crumbling apart in slow motion
A mysterious lady appears to be expecting you
To be delivering a golden casket for her dead chimpanzee
Inside of her living room
Her organ pipes collect the wind

When you enter the room she says, you look absolutely divine
Look at those shoulders and the line oh my
And when you're reading Young Lions in her library
She says the trouble with you readers is you know all the plots
But readers often don't know who the real killer is
Max and Buster are just sitting there
In silence
Playing bridge

You die in her swimming pool
The pool she had brought back to life for you
You hear a gun crack and feel a sting in your back
Fall in the pool with a splash and everything turns black
She's descending the staircase of her palace
And now she's ready for her close up
In front of all these people out there in the dark
The dream now enfolds her
And you're enshrouded by her dream

Won't you cast out this wicked dream which has seized your hearts
Cast out this wicked dream which has seized your hearts
Cast out this wicked dream which has seized your hearts
