The Coming of Night

The lingering heat that hangs thickly in the air
Now flees before the soothing wind of the evening
What once was bright now rolls away, it rolls away
An opening curtain to reveal what heaven hides
Velvet darkness

The deep blue of ending dusk
A captivating dance of flickering stars and shifting clouds

The glow of the moon is the lamp, lighting the feet of those
In the pleasant peace of midnight's reign

There is a beautiful balance between night and day
Together they calm and revive

When the day grows long, and I tire of the light
The sun falls below, hailing the coming of night

A rich love exists for each, and it keeps the spirit alive
When man's toil and doubt bring weariness
There can be much joy and solace
The night and her brother have God in their eyes
And His wisdom on their breath

When the day grows long, and I tire of the light
The sun falls below, hailing the coming of night

When the day grows long, and I tire of the light
The sun falls below, hailing the coming of night
