THE PRECIPICE

It's there, the temptation
To flirt with danger, slow dance with death
To such behavior we are no strangers
But one false step can send the surest-footed over the edge

So beware the compulsion
Should the void come a-calling, calling to collect on a debt
Perish the thought and take a step back
Lest one wrong move condemn you to live out life on the ledge

Standing on the precipice
Tête-à-tête with eternal oblivion
Begging for that cold caress
Whispers of sweet nothingness

Don't despair, regain composure
Before you lose your sense of self, your self-control
Because it will take more than pick and shovel
To dig yourself out of that black hole

Standing on the precipice
Locked in a staring contest with a nihilistic abyss
Blink out of existence and miss catching a glimpse of
A glimmer of meaning in the meaningless

As above, so below
What lies beyond the veil remains a quantity unknown
But for now tomorrow, it still awaits
The choice is yours and yours alone to make
