Birch Among the Pine

I'm waiting for the leaves
To change their colors
Hoping I can be
The same
Way

I dreamt of you in my mind
While walls keep my thoughts confined
Still trying to redefine
All the ways I've wasted our time
But I'm still trying to be
More than the leaves you see
But even in my dreams
My fears follow me
But every time I breathe
I see oceans of orange and green
Lift this weight off of me
Then shimmer the purist sheen
Before I'm six-feet deep

What once was a canvas and palette full of color
Now has no brush nor artist to blend the two
We fall away like the fading colors
Only to bring us numbness when we cross over

Inhale, exhale
Afraid of falling down
Chasing purpose
Until these leaves hit the ground

I'm afraid I've been running away from time
(slowly slips away before you know it)
Hoping I can find it in another life
(creating worlds you couldn't imagine)
These leaves fall, then turn to snow (it's coming down)
They spiral down till I hit the floor
Then cover up the parts of my soul (I think I'm losing myself)
So will the change in the seasons
Bring me solace and meaning
Cause I'm growing tired of staying the same
I just need to change
But if Resistance is to blame for why I stay the same
I'll break this frame and then change all my paint before
I'm done
