A Note To The Industry
Callin' my own shots
Why the f*ck would I call someone else to do it?
Bought my own studio when I was young
And I taught myself to use it
I know they doubting me
They think I'm over the hill
But when I was in L.A looking over the hills
They wanted to chill
I've seen it all before
When I signed a deal at 19
Before that they looked at me crazy
Like say my music wouldn't pay me
But now that I've learned so many lessons
So many L's I could've prevented
Managed to get out a 5 album deal
And little did I know that sh*t was a blessing yeah
I was too young to understand
I was fooled by a hundred grand (one album)
That's why they got the upper hand over me
But then on the other hand
I wouldn't know what I know today
It's funny they didn't believe in Inferno
For video budget they paid 1k
And that's my biggest single of today
Oh I know I can do it on my own
I think they forget I can write myself?
I think they forget I produce myself?
I think they forget I can mix & master all my songs myself?
And edit music videos myself?
And I ain't blowing my own trumpet
But I think the people deserve to know myself
Ooh don't blame me
I met too many people in this business that tried to betray me
I thought my first manager was like a brother til' he didn't pay me
All my royalty money from my first singles
Didn't know how much they were making
I guess that's an L for the taking
But every mistake that I made is important
Otherwise how can I learn?
Felt on top of the world, I hit rock bottom
I really had to get myself out the dirt
Almost let my mental health defeat me
Getting wasted every day didn't work
I can't give up
I know that it gets better only after you've hit your worst
Callin' my own shots
Why the f*ck would I call someone else to do it?
Bought my own studio when I was young
And I taught myself to use it
I know they doubting me
