Where We Stand

Sometimes it's simply splendid to see soldiers on parade
Their armour sparkles in the sunlight,
And thank God we have this shade

It's a beautiful mosaic to be witnessed from afar
And in this heat, it's simply marvellous to view from where we are

And it's oh so beautiful here in this wood
Where the food is delicious and the wine is tasting good

And the water dances deftly in the stream
And it's sounding out an ambience, poetic and serene

But out there in the distance, the campfires are burning
And the armies are assembling in strength

And though it's awfully pleasant here,
I have to ask, my dear
If it might not be prudent for us to consider

Just where we stand

As I draw my fingers across this freshly sharpened blade
I'm remembering my sins and all the choices I have made

And I resolve to make amends for all this bitterness and strife
By my sword and with this battle,
I will consecrate my life

And it's oh so beautiful here in this wood
Where the conversation's brilliant
And the wine is tasting good

And it's so nice you know the flowers by their names
If you can, pass me the caviar, but please avoid the flames

It's hard not to be discerning that the villages are burning
And though it gives the sky a warm, romantic glow

I don't mean to be sardonic
But that music is teutonic
And it might be prudent for us to consider
Just where we stand

What in the world have I been thinking?
How did my future get off track?
Our chance for success is slowly sinking
Unless we strive to take it back

Out there in the distance the campfires are burning
And the armies are assembling in strength

And though it's awfully pleasant here, you can forget it all, my dear,
If we don't stop to consider
Just where we stand

Out there in the distance the campfires are burning
And the armies are assembling in strength

And though it's awfully pleasant here,
I have to ask, my dear
If it might not be prudent for us to consider

Just where we stand
